Isiolo Women Rep. Rehema Jaldesa has challenged the County Government to account for Sh40 million set aside for Covid-19 interventions.
Ms. Jaldesa urged departments of Special Programmes under the Governor’s office, Procurement and Health to be investigated to establish where Sh40 million allocated under covid-19 went to.
The legislator made the remarks while distributing 100 bags of foodstuffs to100 families at Burat location, 3,000 face masks, spades to sand harvesters, chairs and tents and sanitizers to boda boda and matatu operators.
Ms. Jaldesa who is also the Secretary General of Pastoralist Parliamentary Group (PPG) criticized the County Government for improper use of public money and called for candid investigation over the expenditure of the funds.
She added that County Government administration should not take advantage of Covid- 19 pandemic to swindle tax payers of the money intended to help them face life challenges.
She said that PPG met President Uhuru Kenyatta last week and addressed issues of relief food saying that they recommended cash transfer and that they would introduce a bill on government policy to stop relief food dependence.
On security, Jaldesa said security officers should carefully conduct investigation on criminal suspects before handing them to the Courts of Law only for their cases to be dismissed for lack of proper profiling.
She added that lack of jobs had forced youths to engage in drugs’ business and police must carry out thorough examination of the suspects after arrest so that justice could be dispensed at the courts and hence help stop the menace.
Ms. Jaldesa said that drugs seized by security men ended up in some officers’ pocket who later sold them in the black market and what was presented in Court was just a sample.
She commended police for arresting two GSU officers and four civilians last week for ferrying bhang worth more than Sh15 million to Isiolo using a government vehicle.
