Leaders pay tributes to fallen former IEBC Chair Chebukati

Leaders in Narok County have joined Kenyans to mourn the death of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati, who passed on while undergoing treatment in a Nairobi hospital.

Led by Governor Patrick Ntutu, the leaders said the contribution of Chebukati to Kenya’s electoral system, particularly during the challenging 2017 and 2022 elections, will be remembered in the nation’s history.

“His commitment to the democratic process was evident. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” he said.

The governor spoke at Olposimoru trading centre, where he launched a newly constructed sales yard, two newly established maternity wards and a water project.

East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) David Sankok also mourned Chebukati as a brave leader, saying he was praying for the family and friends during this difficult time.

Sankok asked the members of the public to cease from spreading disgusting messages on their social media platforms that inflict more pain to Chebukati’s family.

“We should give the family of Chebukati the peace they need during this difficult time. No one should celebrate another person’s death because we will all die at some point,” he said.

Narok County Assembly Majority Leader Sonkoi Lemein said the country had lost a very brave leader who led two elections in a free, fair and credible manner.
