Leaders mourn the death of Malava MP Malulu Injendi

Grief and a sombre mood engulfed the home of Malava Member of Parliament Moses Malulu Injendi following his demise at a Nairobi hospital after a short illness.

Hundreds of his constituents and relatives thronged his home near Malava town soon after word went round that the local legislator had last evening lost the battle for his life while undergoing treatment in Nairobi.

Mourners and relatives interviewed described the former Member of Parliament as a leader who unified the region. They concurred that his death was a great loss to the country.

His brother Eddy Savula Kwalanda and clan elder Peter Maasai called leaders and area residents to join the family at the difficult moment in order to give the late MP a befitting send-off.

“The funeral of our brother will be coordinated at the national level and we ask that we cooperate so that the event is smooth,” said Kwalanda.

President William Ruto led the country in mourning the death of the MP, who passed away yesterday at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi while undergoing treatment.

Through his official X account, the President said, “I am saddened by the death of a friend and colleague, Mheshimiwa Malulu Injendi. He was a towering leader who selflessly served the people of Malava Constituency, read the condolences message by the president.

“The believer of equal opportunities, Mheshimiwa was diligent, focused and devoted to service. He will be remembered for his passion for education. Our prayers are with the family, friends and the people of Malava at this painful time,” further read the statement.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi described Injendi as a dedicated and passionate legislator who contributed a lot in the field of education.

“His passing is a tremendous loss to the nation and, more acutely, to the people of Malava Constituency,” Mudavadi said.

“A passionate, principled, and tireless advocate, Hon. Injendi worked tirelessly to uplift his community and drive progress in education policy. His efforts in shaping pivotal legislation will leave an enduring legacy in Kenya’s education sector and beyond,” Mudavadi remarked.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula described the late Injendi as a dedicated and passionate representative who served his constituents with unwavering commitment and integrity for three terms consecutively since 2013.

Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa, on his part, said the late MP worked tirelessly to advance education, strengthen the sugar sector and champion the interests of his constituents in Parliament. “His commitment to the people of Malava will be remembered and his legacy will endure,” added the governor.
