The Government has been urged to reappoint State Department for ICT and Innovation Principal Secretary (PS) Jerome Ochieng to steer his administration’s ICT agenda.
Outgoing ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Joe Mucheru said Jerome who has over 25 years experience in public service was better placed to steer the sector.
Mucheru said through Jerome’s experience and technical support, the Ministry was able to achieve milestones.
“There is a time we were running the ministry just the two of us and nothing went wrong,” he said, adding, “If there is anyone here who can advocate for his reappointment it would be good so that he can carry on with the good work.”
His sentiments were echoed by Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili who described the PS as a dedicated public servant, noting, he was the only high ranking government official from Nyakach Sub-County of Kisumu.
“It is through his good work and dedication that he became the first person from Nyakach to be appointed to the position of Principal Secretary. We pray that he is reappointed to carry on with the good work,” he said.
Immediate former Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga said Jerome who has been shortlisted for the Principal Secretary (PS) position deserved it owing to his track record in public service.
“For you to have been shortlisted, is a sign of confidence because of your good work,” he said.
The leaders made the remarks at Kolweny in lower Nyakach during the burial of Jerome’s father John Ochieng Atek, 86, who died of prostate cancer after battling the disease for two years.
Mucheru who led a delegation of national government officials was accompanied by Fishery PS Francis Owino, Basic Education PS Julius Juan, Broadcasting PS Ester Koimet, Planning PS Torome Saitoti, and Government Spokesman, Cyrus Oguna among others.
