Leaders from Isiolo South constituency have blamed their MP Mr. Abdi Koropu for failing to constitute a Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) committee, thus making women from the area miss out on their economic empowerment support.
A former civic leader from Garbatula ward Hajj Boru Dida said that out of 290 constituencies, only Isiolo South had not benefited at all due to the MP’s failure to constitute the important committee.
Hajj Dida was responding to Wednesday’s event where Chief Administrative Secretary for Public Service and Gender Ms. Rachel Shebesh accused the legislator of failing to form the committee, thereby denying the area women an opportunity to uplift their livelihood after benefiting from the fund.
The former chairman of the defunct County Council of Isiolo appealed to the government to compel the legislator to constitute the committee as soon as possible because the women from the area had the right to benefit from the national government fund like those from the rest of the country.
The MP could not be reached for comment as his phone went unanswered.
Dida added that Isiolo County had lagged behind in development due to infighting between elected political leaders.
The former civic leader accused Isiolo leaders of witch hunting instead of delivering services to their electorates saying none of the elected leaders could show any completed project in the region since the 2017 general election.
He challenged Isiolo Governor Dr. Mohamed Kuti to call all elected, religious and opinion leaders for the sake of development and peace building instead of engaging in the unending fights in the media.
