Migori Orange Democratic Movement nominated Member of Parliament Denittah Ghati has said she would move a motion in Parliament which would enforce harsh punishment on people who raped disabled women and girls.
Addressing the disabled persons in Uriri Sub County Migori County, Ghati said that the bill would ensure that those who committed offences of defilement, rape and other heinous atrocities to young girls and women living with disability would be jailed for life.
“I will table a bill in Parliament to make sure that ladies who are defiled, raped as well as sodomised disabled boys get justice because many sex predators are fond of taking advantage of their conditions to do more harm to them,” she said.
She noted that currently, there were no stern laws in place to ensure that the perpetrators of crime against the disabled persons get justice.
“The current laws that we have are not making the perpetrators of these crimes against the persons living with disability face the music and be brought to book as many of the criminals are able to evade and even impede justice,” she added.
Ghati called on the police and other security personnel to ensure that the disabled persons get justice and live without being harassed.
At the same time Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita said that he would help in moving the motion that Denittah Ghati wants to table before Parliament to help the disabled.
