Mombasa County Commissioner (CC) Gilbert Kitiyo has put land grabbers and speculators in the region on notice.
Kitiyo said the land grabbing menace is to blame for many crimes such as murders happening in the region.
Speaking during a security meeting in Kisauni sub county Saturday, the county commissioner said the law must be followed by both residents and investors in the acquisition of land anywhere in the coastal county.
He further noted that local chiefs are also to blame for not taking action despite knowing the crafty individuals involved in the illegal land activities in their areas of jurisdiction.
Kitiyo said residents have for long raised the alarm over the thriving land grabbing in the area, adding that those taking part in land invasions would now be dealt with severely by the security agencies.
Subsequently, the county commissioner has directed chiefs, their assistants and community leaders to act decisively on all land grabbers and speculators, noting that land invasion was a breach of the law that would no longer be be entertained under his watch.
He also directed the police to launch a fresh crackdown on all drug peddlers and illicit brewers, while attributing the two vices to the rising criminal activities in the area.
Meanwhile, Kitiyo urged the public members of the public to continue supporting security agencies in the fight against crime, drug trafficking and land grabbing
