The Laikipia Governor’s wife, Maria Mbeneka in conjunction with the County’s department of Health on Saturday launched an initiative aimed at providing an incentive for mothers to deliver their babies in health facilities.
Launching the initiative at Chumvi Health Centre in Laikipia North Constituency, Mbeneka said the aim was to ensure better health care for the people of Laikipia which was in line with Governor Ndiritu Muriithi’s manifesto on access to universal health care.
She said the initiative dubbed “Hongera Mama Kit” would see to more skilled deliveries, reduced infant and maternal mortality as envisaged in Laikipia Health plan 2018-2020.
Mbeneka pointed out that the Mama kit was designed to help expectant mothers walk their journey with assistance from professional medical personnel.
She said that mothers who were eligible for the Mama kit should be registered for Linda Mama card and attend a minimum of four antenatal clinics before delivery.
The team was accompanied by Mukogodo East Member of County Assembly (MCA), Daniel Nyausi.
