Laikipia County invests Sh160 million on Doldol Smart town

Laikipia County has kicked off the improvement of Doldol trading centre at a tune of Sh160 million in anticipation of attracting investors and creating job opportunities in the area.

Speaking during contract signing in Nanyuki town for the implementation of the project by National Youth Service (NYS), County Chief Officer in Charge of Infrastructure Eng Duncan Mwangi, said they will upgrade 1.38 kilometre of road to bitumen standard, 1.84 kilometre walk ways, drainage systems and install 46 stand-alone street lamps.

“We are ready to kick off this project aimed at benefiting Doldol residents and for 24-hour economy, we will install street lighting,” said Mwangi.

Eng. Mwangi added that the project would be completed within eight months and called on residents to accord to NYS support during the project implementation period.

County Secretary Karanja Njora said the construction of Doldol smart town would be supported by the infrastructure bond.

“We have contracted NYS and this is due to the existing MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) that we will work together on development projects,” said Njora.

Doldol became the second town to benefit from the Infrastructure bond after the construction of Karuga smart town that kicked off weeks ago and was contracted to Warugita general contractors at a cost of Sh96 million.

Other towns expected to be constructed by use of the infrastructure bond are Matanya Nyahururu Rumuruti, Ol jabet, Naibor, Wiyumiririe, Kinamba, Kalalu,Mugwarak and Pesi.

County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Finance and Economic Planning Boni Murungi, said the financed projects would improve the economic livelihoods for the residents.
