Kwale Leaders Donate Food and Masks

Kwale MP Zuleikha Hassan and Kinango MP Benjamin Tayari have separately launched free food and facemasks distribution to residents.
Speaking separately on Monday, the two leaders said they would do everything possible to ensure everyone is safe.
They urged residents to obey county and national government directives on coronavirus aimed at curtailing the spread of the virus.
Ms. Hassan said she has set aside some funds form the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) to provide food and non-food items to the vulnerable and less privileged members of the society in the face of the difficulties wrought by the coronavirus pandemic.
In her meet-the-people tours she has been encouraging people to take the coronavirus pandemic seriously and observe high standards of hygiene.
“It is the responsibility of every one of us to adopt measures that will protect us from getting infected with the virus,” she said when she toured Mavarata and Mavirivirini villages in Kinango Sub-county.
She said many require food with the stay at home advisories and restriction on population movements between Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi counties in a bid to check the spread of covid-19 in the region.
“There is need to cushion the most vulnerable in the society from the effects of stay-at-home directives, night curfew and containment in the coastal counties,” she said.
MP Tayari said he had solicited packages of foodstuffs and masks from friends and well-wishers including Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and Mombasa cement to distribute to the seven wards in his constituency.
He said he started distributing facemasks now that nobody is allowed to move around streets and public spaces without a mask.
The first-term MP said there is a need for the local leaders to come together to support the vulnerable residents undergoing economic hardships brought by the decline in business activities as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
