Kwale County men and women football teams are KYISA champions

Kwale County football men and women teams are this year’s Kenya Youth Inter-county (KYISA) Games champions.

Kwale trounced their opponents, Turkana 5-4 in penalty shootout after they drew 0-0 in the normal and extra time.

The decisive goal of Kwale was scored by Zacharia Hamisi while Turkana team captain failed to score in the fifth kick of the penalty at Unoa Grounds in Wote town on Sunday where the finals were being played.

Kwale’s tactician, Kingunge Ibrahim said good preparations made them win tournament. Kingunge led the team in the 2015 games in which they also won.

“Turkana was a tough team and players were tactful and strong, however I was confident we would win the double after the women won on Saturday,” said

The women football team beat the immediate champions Kajiado 1-0 in the finals.

Turkana coach Joseph Adhula said he will go back to the drawing board to ensure he wins the fifty n edition next year.

“We were not lucky in the penalty shootout, however that is how games are. Now we will not lose focus after winning a bronze medal,” he said.

In volleyball, Makueni women thrashed Kiambu 3-1 sets to win this year’s title for the first time whereby they scored 25-18, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-16.

In men’s group, Kirinyaga defeated Nyeri by 3-1 sets Kirinyaga won 25-22, 23-25, 25-24 and 25-21 respectively.

A total of 22 teams participated in the just concluded games.

Meanwhile, Isiolo and Kajiado men engaged ineligible players who were over age resulting to disqualification.
