The Kenya Volleyball Association (KVA) vice president Charles Nyamberi has said that the sports body will help Nyandarua to set up beach volleyball in the county.
This comes amid concerted effort to promote beach volleyball in the country.
The vice president said that their goal is to sponsor two beach volleyball tournaments in the county as soon as the County Sports Executive Ann Gathigia ensures that facilities are in good condition.
The local team is representing Africa in the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games happening in Japan.
“We had not anticipated that our team would do well enough to represent the entire continent in this year’s Olympic Games and it is evident that this sport can be popular in Kenya if the proper structures are put in place. We promise to team up with the association’s vice treasurer Moses Mbuthia to facilitate the county tournaments and help Nyandarua to be the launching pad for beach volley in Mt. Kenya region which is popular in regular football,” Nyamberi said at Ol Kalou.
He also handed over beach volleyball nets and balls to Governor Francis Kimemia during a two-day open volleyball tournament that the County had organised over the weekend.
The tournament drew 10 men and 5 women teams concluding with Kisii University team being awarded the men’s trophy after beating Naivasha Bullets.
