The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials have partnered with Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to plant 3200 trees at the Kakamega Forest as part of initiatives undertaken during the taxpayers’ month.
Speaking to KNA at his office, Kakamega Ecosystem Conservator, Maurice Wanyiri, said KRA officials from Western and Kisumu teamed up in the exercise where they planted trees covering two hectares of land at the Shamirori section of the Kakamega Forest.
The planting exercise was also undertaken by Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officers from Kakamega, officers from the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) and community members.
The ecosystem conservator lauded the partnership the forest service has had with KRA among other stakeholders in tree planting. He said the partnership with various stakeholders has encouraged community members to be active participants during such activities and taking care of the trees.
The Ecosystem Conservator noted other partners like Safaricom Company, have played a big role in tree planting in the Kakamega Forest. He said Safaricom Company has planted trees covering 75 hectares of land in the forest and are targeting to cover at least 100 hectares.
Wanyiri said tree planting is an ongoing activity in the Forest noting that all stakeholders are welcome to participate in tree planting.
