Youths with a passion for soccer are set to benefit from a partnership deal between the Trans Nzoia County government and Kenya Premier League (KPL).
County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Sports Channel Kittony led a team of KPL officials to Governor George Natembeya’s office, where the partnership deal was discussed and signed.
The KPL team was led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jack Oguda.
Addressing the press, Natembeya shared some of the deal’s package, which include capacity building, sponsorship linkages, identification and honing of soccer talents in the county.
The Governor hailed KPL’s decision to work with the county, saying his administration was focused on investing in the sports sector to generally help spur economic growth and development of the devolved unit.
“I welcome this initiative since this partnership is envisaged at creating a huge impact on the county’s economic growth plan,” noted Natembeya.
Describing sports as a major source of income for the youths, Natembeya urged sports docket staff to work closely with relevant stakeholders, especially learning institutions for purposes of talent identification and development.
Kittony echoed the governor’s sentiments, saying county government was looking towards the KPL Under-20 soccer tournament to be held this August.
On his part, Oguda emphasized KPL U20’s mission which is to provide platforms for youth soccer clubs across the 47 counties, with the sole objective of producing great footballers.
