Koskei urges civil servants to serve diligently, avoid graft

Public servants have been called upon to stop corruption as government services are free and no one should undertake unethical ways in service delivery; failing to do so, they will face dire consequences.

Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Principal Secretary for ICT and The Digital Economy Eng. John Tanui, and Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi, speaking during the launch of Jitume Free public WI-FI, said the public service was the backbone of the country and that civil servants were to act as role models to the citizens, hence stopping corruption in government offices during service delivery and employment.

“Corruption in markets and bribing officers at the county and national government offices must stop across the country, and we want services such as licencing to be offered to the citizens without creating problems,” Koskei said.

He pointed out that public officers must be available in their offices during official working hours, as no one would be allowed to earn a salary without working, adding that residents should access services without any problem.

On the Wi-Fi launch, the Chief of Staff urged women and youth to take advantage of it as it eases communication and reduces the cost of doing business.

“The aim of the government is to ensure that every town, village, school, and university is connected so that every person will access the internet to boost business across the globe,” Koskei added.

On education, the CS beseeched the leaders to stop the push and pull and agree on the location to build a university to enable residents to access education and also boost development.

The Head of Public Service noted that insecurity has rocked the county for a long time, adding that the military camps were there to stay and would be increased, together with the recruitment of more National Police Reservists, to restore lasting peace in the region.

Koskei further implored residents to take advantage of the reduced cost of fertiliser from Sh. 6,500 to Sh. 2,500 to undertake farming activities to ensure sustainable development.

Among other leaders who addressed the series of meetings with the Head of Public Service were Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, his Uasin Gishu counterpart Jonathan Bii, Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap, Tiaty MP William Kamket, his Baringo Central counterpart, Joshua Kandie, Baringo County Assembly Speaker, Vincent Kemboi, and a host of members of the County Assembly. Local professionals, including former PS Prof. Fred Segor and former Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, were also in attendance.
