KNUT officials demand Sossion relinquish his position

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Council maintains that the embattled Secretary General Wilson Sossion would not lead the union despite his thirst for leadership at the teachers’ union.

KNUT Deputy Secretary General Hesbon Otieno said that the council had resolved that Sossion would remain suspended from the position until the next election is held by the National Delegates Conference.

Otieno accused his boss of being arrogant and irresponsible and neglecting the union affairs since his nomination to the National Assembly by the ODM Party.

Speaking to KNA on Sunday in Rangwe Constituency, Otieno regretted that many of KNUT members have been suspended while others were interdicted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and have not been reinstated because Sossion is not ready to negotiate with the Commission.

Otieno added that Sossion has caused a stalemate in the union over a high number of cases he always files in court arguing that he failed to lead the negotiation team from the union to discuss the issues surrounding the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) rolled out by the ministry of Education.
Otieno also maintained that the teachers would not allow Sossion to dismantle their Union saying he could not concentrate on the union’s maters since he doubles up as a MP in the National Assembly.
He further revealed that they were in the process of negotiating with the employer TSC to find ways of reinstating over 40 teachers who were interdicted for boycotting the CBC trainings.
