Almost all the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) branches in Rift Valley regional council want Collins Oyuu to take over the National Secretary General position from Wilson Sossion.
At least 24 out of 25 branches endorsed Collins Oyuu as their preferred candidate for the position of the union’s Secretary-General during the forthcoming elections.
Oyuu is the current KNUT acting national chairman and will be seeking to take over the influential position in the elections expected to be held in June this year from the current Secretary-General Wilson Sossion.
The regional council members made the declaration while unveiling a list of their preferred regional officials who will represent them at the national level, in a meeting held in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County.
Addressing a media after the meeting, Oyuu, who is from the Nyanza region expressed optimism that under his leadership, he will steer KNUT to regain its lost glory.
He accused Sossion of being behind the downfall of KNUT, following a fallout with the Teachers Service Commission.
According to Oyuu, KNUT cannot survive without working closely with the government of the day, an aspect he noted the current Secretary-General has failed to take into consideration, following his long-standing war with TSC leadership.
The acting KNUT national chairman also accused Sossion of planning to rig the upcoming elections, something he said they will not allow happening.
