Kitale National Polytechnic to increase enrollment of trainees

Kitale National Polytechnic is set to increase enrolment of trainees from the current 7000 to 10,000 by 2022.
Speaking to KNA, chairman governing council of Kitale National Polytechnic, Dr. Benson Ririmpoi said plans are underway to expand the institution’s infrastructure to accommodate the huge number of trainees.
“We have started the construction of a four storey tuition block with 16 lecture rooms and increased furniture such as lecture chairs, technical drawing boards and drawing tables and stools,” he explained.
He added that the Council has also forwarded the proposals for funding for the development of a modern tuition block, medical and applied science complex, a hospitality Centre and Mechanical department equipping.
According to Ririmpoi, the council has already constructed two halls and 12 lecture rooms and helped in employing 69 trainers.
Ririmpoi said to align the institution with the changing technology, the governing council has allocated funds for sponsorship of staff to upgrading their skills.
“The projects will help in diminishing ICT gap among the trainees and the community and reduce interruptions in learning and teaching due to frequent power outages,” he added.
The institution was established in 1980 by the Kenyan Government and upgraded to a National polytechnic in 2016.
It offers various courses at diploma and certificate levels. It has been identified as a centre of excellence in Agriculture.
