Kitale Bus Park set for enhanced security

Modern Kitale Bus Park is on the brink of receiving a major security transformation, with the Trans Nzoia administration preparing to install an all-encompassing security system, complete with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

The move follows an escalation of incidents of lawlessness that eventually witnessed a security breach during Tuesday’s clash involving matatu operators and Bodaboda riders, ultimately leading to the temporary closure of the bus park.

Speaking at county headquarters in Kitale, Governor Natembeya stressed the importance of close cooperation between Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators, boda boda riders on the one hand, and the county administration on the other to enable seamless transport activity at the modern bus park.

In an effort to achieve the same, the Governor announced an interim Bus Park Committee entrusted with overseeing the day-to-day affairs of the facility.

The committee comprises of representatives from matatu operators, hawkers, Bodaboda operators, and county government officers.

The County Chief urged members of the public to always observe traffic laws while at the facility.

He strongly warned against unscrupulous touts who swindle cash and property from innocent travelers.

“My administration would not allow rogue individuals to convert our bus park into a den of thugs that keep harassing matatu owners, drivers, and passengers,” warned Natembeya.

Besides the CCTV cameras, the Governor assured the locals of enhanced maximum security at the facility, provided by both national and devolved unit armed officers.

The County Chief cautioned politicians against exploiting innocent youths for selfish gains by engaging them in lawless activities aimed at destabilizing services at the Bus Park.

With the proposed installation of enhanced security measures, especially CCTV cameras, and the establishment of the interim Bus Park Committee, there is renewed optimism that Kitale Bus Park will soon reclaim its status as a secure and efficient transportation hub within the region.

The governor is set to reopen the facility on Friday.
