Kisumu, US partner to Revolutionize various sectors

A delegation from the Embassy of the United States (US) led by Ambassador Margaret Whitman has called on Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o to reaffirm the strong partnership between the US and Kisumu County.

Whitman who was on her first official trip to the counties held discussions with Prof. Nyong’o on ways to strengthen the collaboration between Kisumu County and the US on healthcare, trade and agriculture.

The US and Kenya, she said, share a strong partnership for mutual economic development in many fields.

While addressing the delegation, Governor Nyong’o expressed optimism that Whitmans’ visit would strengthen the economic ties in the medical sector and agriculture as well as open up the region to global investors and tourists.

“We have discussed many issues regarding US programs within the county that revolve around the medical field, agriculture as well as global affairs that affect Kenyans,” said Prof. Nyong’o.

The delegation also toured Kenya’s largest Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) office in Kisumu to fast-track America’s support for tropical diseases, malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

“The US through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has supported a number of projects that fight tropical diseases in Kenya and we will continue allocating more funding for these programs,” assured Whitman.

The newly appointed US Ambassador to Kenya observed that the lakeside county hosts numerous US investments, businesses and is home to many US nationals.

Kisumu has the second highest number of US embassy staff after Nairobi and boasts of various critical programs and investments funded by the US government.
