Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o has announced that preparations of the upcoming Madaraka Day scheduled to be celebrated in Kisumu and to be graced by the President and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga are complete.
Nyong’o said that the ceremony scheduled for Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo Kisumu will present a golden opportunity for the economy of Kisumu to benefit within the sectors directly.
The governor noted that already work on the road from the Kisumu town center are ongoing in efforts to upgrade it to standards convenient for the expected visitors.
“We have unprecedented luck because Kisumu town will be completely spruced up due to the President’s visit but the most important thing is that we will be hosting high caliber visitors who have been landing in this town since two weeks ago with many visitors flocking from as far as Nairobi and of course you understand the economic significance of this for our city,” said Nyong’o.
The governor noted that most of the major hotels in Kisumu city are already fully booked saying this meant good business not only for the taxi businesses in Kisumu but also for the Boda boda riders.
The Governor thanked the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga together with the president for honoring a promise they made to the people of Kisumu at yacht club promising that one of the national celebrations would be slated for the city.
Nyong’o announced that the National Government will install three huge screens at Kirende grounds(Raila grounds), outside Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium and a third at Prophet Owuor grounds. In total the stadiums will accomodate 24000 people from where the residents who will not get an opportunity to access the stadium will be able to follow the proceedings with compliance to the Covid-19 regulations.
