The County Government of Kisumu through the department of health has declared that they have put in place appropriate measures to control the spread of malaria within the county.
Health officials in the county revealed that they have sprayed 5000 of the 6000 households in the county in this campaign.
Kisumu County Director of Public Health Dr. Lilian Adayo disclosed this during the World Malaria Day celebrations held at Ombeyi primary school in Muhorroni Sub County.
“We are ensuring that residents use mosquito nets well and that pregnant mothers and children also get nets and are vaccinated against malaria especially the pregnant women,” said Adayo
The director also noted that they have strengthened the knowledge and capacity of the community health volunteers on the surveillance of the diseases outbreak in the community.
She expressed satisfaction over the level of preparedness in the region to effectively handle matters of malaria with governor Prof. Peter Nyon’go helping equip them to fight the disease.
She further outlined their plans to ensure that houses within Kisumu are properly sprayed against mosquitoes so that residents are inoculated against malaria.
She revealed that they target to reach between 60,000 to 70,000 households in Nyando Sub County alone in the campaign.
