Kisii Children’s Home get free dental clinic services

Children and staff at Kisii Children’s Home on the outskirts of Kisii town have benefitted from free dental clinic checkups courtesy of Nova-Pryme Dental Clinic in Kisii.

Speaking at the facility, Dr.  Sarah Bodo from Nova-Pryme Dental Clinic said they were offering dental services at the facility as part of commemorating the World Oral Health Day and giving back to the less privileged in the society.

“Through the support of Colgate, we have also donated toothpastes, toothbrushes and educational materials to facilitate this day,” noted Dr. Bodo.

She said they had also conducted oral health checkups for the children and staff and referred some of the children with cavities to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment.

Dr. Bodo decried the high prevalence of oral diseases among adults, noting that 1 in every 3 adults has a tooth extraction or cavity.

She stressed the importance of educating individuals on oral hygiene as it ensures they keep their mouths clean and seek timely treatment when necessary.

Dr. Bodo urged parents to actively teach their children from a tender age on good oral hygiene practices to avoid cases of cavities among them.

“The most important time to brush your teeth is in the evening so that you go to bed with a clean mouth and reduce the chances of cavities,” she added.

Kisii Children’s Home Administrator, Thomas Nam lauded the clinic for their donations and provision of free dental clinic services to the children at the facility.

Mr. Nam urged other health care professionals to emulate such kind gestures and visit the children so that they can benefit from other medical services as part of promoting the good health of the children.
