Kisii Administrator urges residents to avoid anti-govt demos

Kisii Township Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Ann Ojwando has appealed to the residents of Kisii town to refrain from the anti-government demonstrations scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week.

Speaking at a public baraza at Daraja Mbili market, Ojwando said the residents should continue focusing on their daily activities instead of blocking roads and destroying other people’s property during the protests.

“Every resident in the area should reflect on whether participating in weekly protests will earn them income, since work will be disrupted. Instead, they should prioritise their daily work and take time to rest during the weekend,” she said.

The ACC pointed out the potential negative impact of reducing work to only two days a week, saying it will decrease profits for businesses in the region.

Ojwando urged the residents to give the political leaders time to negotiate and provide a clear path for the nation’s well-being and economy.

Nyamwaro decried the aftermath of the previous two anti-government demonstrations, adding that they had led to the loss of billions of shillings, lives, and property.

Further, the Director said that the Azimio-led Alliance should urge its supporters to hold peaceful demonstrations.

This comes even as the Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS), Prof. Kithure Kindiki, issued a stern warning, adding that he will not allow any attempts to disrupt public order and endanger people’s lives in the guise of picketing.
