Hotels in Kilifi have recorded high bookings throughout the month of December raising expectations that the tourism sector could be on its way to recovery.
But the trend has been common during the month of December holidays every year when both local and foreign tourists travel to the Coastal towns to relax and enjoy as they welcome the New Year according to Peter Njoroge, the Manager of Mada hotels of Kilifi Bay Beach Resort and Baobab Beach Resort.
Speaking to KNA at the hotel, Njoroge said the two star hotels have a bed capacity of 120 and 65 respectively and have recorded a 60 per cent bed occupation and by 20th December 2019, the two hotels will be at 100 per cent bed occupation.
He said the hotel has revised its hotel bed rates down words after carrying out major renovations thus attracting many visitors to their premises unlike before when they preferred going to other hotels.
At Silver Palm Beach Resort near Kilifi Bay, the Hotel Manager, Michael Otieno, said his 40 bed capacity is fully occupied throughout the month of December but special arrangements have been made to accommodate more visitors at nearby apartments.
He said it has been the trend that the month of December every year come as a blessing to most hotels in the area but visitors check out at the beginning of January.
The Mnarani Club Beach Resort with a bed capacity of 150 is occupied at 60 per cent bed occupation but the number is expected to rise by the middle of the month.
