Security forces in Kilifi had to be called to disperse over 50 security guards from Comfort Security Company crowding at the gates of Kilifi county referral hospital Wednesday after they blocked the gates demanding to be paid their 4 months’ salary arrears.
The guards claimed that they have been working without salaries for the past 4 months and that they could no longer continue working under the same conditions.
Comfort security firm director Mr. Patrick Karisa who made fruitless efforts to convince his workers to resume work said he has been forced to apply for a loan from the bank to at least pay them a month salary.
He said he cannot blame the county government for the delayed payment to the firm as it is a countrywide challenge of funds over the stalemate on the revenue sharing formula.
“We cannot allow the problem to destroy our contract with the county government which has enabled our firm to employ over 50 security guards to provide security at the health facility. We are looking for funds now to pay our workers,” he said.
The facility medical superintendent Dr. Eddy Nzomo said the strike by the guards has to be sorted by the firm itself.
