Kilibwoni wins MP football tournament

The Kilibwoni team from Nandi County was crowned on Sunday the champions of the Emgwen football tournament talent search organised by area Member of Parliament (MP) Josses Lelmengit.

Playing in a packed Kapsabet stadium, Kilibwoni displayed high-quality football, dominating possession from the start.

The team saw off arch-rivals Green Army 5-4 in penalties to win their first-ever title in a journey that can only be described as extraordinary.

Their performance in the field was a culmination of their hard work, dedication, and strong belief in their abilities.

“It was a tough match but we thank God for the victory. We maintained pressure on our opponent, forcing them to make mistakes, but they refused to create spaces for us to score. We remained goalless even after extra time, forcing us to go for penalties,” said Brian Kitur, one of the players.

Their victory not only brings honour to their constituency but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring footballers across the entire county. The event attracted 90 teams, both men and women.

Third position went to Kapkangani, who displayed their unwavering commitment to excellence by conquering Chepkumia 2-1. The men’s winners took home Sh 25,000 in cash awards, while the second-placed Green Army pocketed Sh 20.000.

In the ladies football category, Kapsabet starlets faced off against Chepkumia, triumphing with a resounding 1-0 victory to be crowned champions for the very first time in their history.

According to the area MP, the objective of the tournament was to nurture and develop the youth as well as help them realise their talents at the grassroots level.

“It’s important to grow the youth’s talent and get them out of drugs and frustrations. You have seen how the tournament has kept them busy,” he said.
