Roads Transport and Public Works Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has lauded the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) for the great progress they have made in upgrading Kericho town roads to bitumen standards.
The CS who inspected the ongoing upgrading of roads in Kericho town on Thursday expressed confidence that the dedicated team of KURA will complete the work way ahead of time.
Mr. Murkomen assured that once the upgrading of the roads is complete, it will facilitate easy access to essential facilities in the county, including the Kericho Green Stadium (which will be the venue for the celebrations), markets, schools, and factories.
He further said the roads will also have a proper drainage system and well-paved walkways that will promote non-motorized transport.
“I have also inspected the state of the Kerenga Airstrip project, and I am pleased with the work that has already been done by the contractor, and with the leadership of the Kenya Defense Forces and the Kenya Airports Authority that have made it possible for the shortest time possible, in less than three weeks, we’ve been able to do amazing work on such an important facility, a very good run way,” remarked CS Murkomen.
According to the CS, a successful test landing and takeoff were done at the 1.2-kilometre Kerenga Airstrip runway, adding that the facility will open up the region to efficient air transport since it can serve planes with a capacity of 37 people.
“We, however, for maximum utilisation of this facility, want to extend the airstrip to 2 kilometres for efficient transport, tourism, and medical emergencies,” added Murkomen.
