Kericho Governor Prof. Paul Chepkwony yesterday nominated Ms. Lily Chepngetich Ngok as his next Deputy Governor after the sudden demise of the office holder the late Ms. Susan Kikwai who succumbed to Covid 19.
Chepkwony handed over the nomination letter to the speaker of the Kericho County Assembly Mr. Dominic Rono for vetting and approval process by the Members of the County Assembly.
In a statement, the Kericho Governor Confirmed that the nominee meets all the requirements for the nomination to the post and has all the qualifications, leadership qualities, and competencies necessary for the Deputy Governor’s seat.
“In considering this nomination, I have taken into account the fact the late Susan Kikwai ailed from Kipkelion East Sub-County and hence the nomination addresses continuity in the distribution of the elective seats and gender balance.”
The nominated Deputy Governor is currently the County Executive Committee member of Education, Sports, Culture and Social Service in Kericho County. If endorsed by the Members of the County Assembly, Ms. Ngok will assume office of Deputy Governor pursuant to the provisions of article 182 (2) of the constitution as read with sections 32(c) and 32(d) of the County government Act No. 11(2020) and Section 22, 25,and 26 of the Elections Act 2011.
Her nomination comes two days after the burial of the late Deputy Governor Susan Kikwai who was laid to rest on Tuesday 23rd March 2021 at Tugunon village, Kipkelion East Sub-County in Kericho County. Ms. Kikwai had served the position as Deputy Governor for the last eight years.
