Kenyatta University is the overall winner of this year’s 8th Edition of Kenya Universities Sports Federation KUSF Games just ended at Kibabii University.
The University was declared winner after scooping a total of 100 Medals, 42 Gold, 29 Silver and 29 Bronze.
Acting Vice –Chancellor of Kibabii University, Dr Engineer Benedict Mutua, thanked all participants for exhibiting a high sense of discipline and sportsmanship throughout the competitions.
Dr Mutua urged the participants to continue doing more practice to further nurture their talents to achieve a physically fit and healthy society.
He urged the students who have not yet been vaccinated to go and receive the Covid -19 jabs, so as to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
Maseno University came second winning 15 Medals, Kibabii University 36, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture And Technology JKUAT 60 Medals.
In Soccer, men, Kenyatta University came first, University of Eldoret (UOE) was 2nd runners- up, followed by JKUAT while in women football, Masinde Muliro took the medal followed by Kenyatta University with University of Eldoret scooping third position.
In Basketball Men, JKUAT was first runners up followed by Kibabii University as Kenyatta University took position one.
Kenyatta University took third position, JKUAT Second and University of Nairobi topped the table in basketball.
In Badminton Men category, Maseno was second runners up, Kibabii University was first runners up while Kenyatta University were declared the winners while in the Women’s category, Masinde Muliro University was ranked first runners- up and Kenyatta University emerged the best.
In chase Men category, Kenyatta University was position three, JKUAT Position two and the winners were University of Nairobi while in the Women category, MMUST was third, Kenyatta University second and JKUAT became position one.
In Hockey Men category, JKUAT was third, Kenyatta University second and Strathmore University took the lead whereas in the women Hockey category, MMUST were announced as the winners.
In Athletics men, Kenyatta University emerged top followed by Kisii University. In Netball Men, Kenyatta University were declared as the winners as MMUST took a lead in the women’s Netball Category.
In Rugby Sevens Competitions Men Category Kibabii, Strathmore and Kenyatta University took positions one, two and three respectively while in the women’s cadre, University of Eldoret came third, followed by Kenyatta University as Meru University was declared the champion.
In Scrabble, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) were the winners. The Table Tennis Men category was won by JKUAT while the women’s side was won by University of Nairobi.
In swimming Men and women categories, Kenyatta University were winners while in Taekwondo, Kibabii University won both the male and female categories.
Handball Men Category was won by Strathmore University and Kenyatta University won the female side whereby JKUAT came third while MMUST settled for the second position.
The President of KUSF, Mr Mbabu Murithi, and one of the Organizing Committee members, Mr Kibet Rono, urged the Universities to continue registering for more games in the up-coming editions of the games.
The theme for the 8th Edition of KUSF Games was ‘Nurturing Talents for Livelihood and Sustainability Through Sports’.
