Kenya’s ambassador to Qatar passes on

Residents of Homa Bay County are in mourning following the death of Kenya’s Ambassador to Qatar Paddy Ahenda.

The former Kabondo Kasipul Member of Parliament died on Sunday in a hospital in Doha, Qatar after reportedly suffering a heat stroke.

Speaking to KNA at Paddy’s home in Nyosore village in Kasipul Kabondo, the deceased’s brother Gabriel Ahenda said initially the family was informed Friday that the Ambassador had been involved in an accident and was in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Qatar.

“We had been waiting for information on how our brother’s treatment was fairing after the accident and his wife had even traveled to Qatar to see him,” said Gabriel.

On Sunday night however, the family received the sad news. Gabriel further stated that they were currently in the process of organizing for his send off in collaboration with the government as they wait for further information on their kin’s demise.

Ahenda was appointed as Head of Kenya’s mission in Qatar in late 2018 by President Uhuru Kenyatta after serving as Kasipul Kapondo MP from 2006 to 2007 following a by-election occasioned by death of the then MP Peter Owidi.

His attempt to ascend back to the position after the end of his tenure in 2007 bore no fruits. The late Ahenda passed on at the age of 69. He is survived by a widow, two sons and two daughters.

Some of the leaders who have so far sent messages of condolence to the family include the County Governor Cyprian Awiti, his Deputy Hamilton Orata and Women Representative Gladys Wanga.
