Kenyans assured of safety during Easter holidays  

Turkana County Commissioner Jacob Ouma has assured residents wishing to travel for Easter holidays of their safety.

“We have ensured that there are regular patrols within the 42km stretch from Kalimorok-Kainuk on a 24/7 basis to ensure the passengers are safe,” he said.

He added that the County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi has been camping in the Kainuk for the last two weeks to enhance coordination of the security operation.

The operation comprises security forces among them Anti stock theft unit, Kenya Police, General Service Unit, Rapid deployment unit who are reinforced by the Kenya Defence Forces.

He added that as a result of the patrols there has been no highway robbery incident along the stretch of the road in the last two weeks.

Meanwhile, the county boss has urged partners to continue supporting families affected by drought saying it will take some time for the households affected by drought to recover despite the ongoing rains.

He noted that the coming of the rains will bring about adequate pastures and replenish water sources thereby reducing conflicts related pasture and water.

Ouma said the national government will continue to distribute relief food.

“I appeal to partners to continue distributing relief food. I am glad that the world food programme has pledged to continue with relief food distribution for the next six months,” he said.
