Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Denmark government, a partnership that will focus on the areas of higher education, research and innovation.
The MOU symbolizes the two countries readiness to deepen, expand and strengthen ties and partnership.
The signing ceremony that was undertaken by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Ogamba and the Minister of Higher Education and Science of Denmark, Christina Egelund, was attended by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala and Vice-Chancellors from 15 public universities.
Speaking at the meeting held at Jogoo House in Nairobi on Thursday, CS Ogamba said the two countries have maintained a long-standing cordial relationship which runs to 60 years.
“We have partnered in various sectors, including supporting universities in the field of science and capacity building of staff at the university level,” he said.
“With the MoU, we will now have a framework to build on the work that we have already been doing together and to explore cooperation in joint research initiatives,” said Ogamba.
He added that the partnership will also see the two countries share and exchange information and documentation, arrange academic and research exchanges and organize workshops and conferences to contemplate contemporary issues.
