Kenya railways services resumed normalcy in selected routes

The Kenya Railways (KR) has announced the resumption of activities in most of its train routes, after it suspended following the recent flooding in the Country.

In a statement the Kenya Railways Managing Director, said the resumed train activities are in the following areas: Embakasi village, Lukenya, SGR link train and Syokimau.

The Company lifted the ban order presented on the 2nd of May 7, 2024, where the KR ceased all commuter train services for the aforementioned routes.

The advisory came after the country was laden with excessive rains that caused flooding in several parts of the Country.

The Kenya Railways Managing Director, Philip J Maiga, at the same time implored Kenyans to be vigilant, as the rain continued pounding the country.

He said train routes and services are constantly subjected to change, depending on the weather advisory and safety considerations.

“We wish to advise the public that the train services are subject to change at short notice, depending on weather safety considerations,” he said.

Maiga added that such measures are essential for the safety of their customers.

“We are compelled to take such measures because the safety of our customers is paramount,” he added.

The Director further reiterated the need to get the track back online, but issued caution, “The safety of our customers will always be our top priority,” he concluded.
