Kenya on right food production trajectory, Linturi

Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has congratulated Kenyan farmers for supplying enough food to the country during the last rainy season.

Speaking during a fundraiser at Riiji Catholic Church in Central Imenti, the CS said that the farmers took advantage of the fertiliser subsidies, among other interventions, to produce adequate food for their consumption and sale.

“Upon gaining power, we faced high food prices due to scarcity, prompting interventions and encouraging farmers to return to their farms for increased food production. Hence, today I stand here to congratulate them for heeding our call and announcing that we now have enough food for the country,” said Linturi.

He said the government and especially his ministry has elaborate plans to ensure food production thrives, which will in turn address the issue of the cost of living that has been a thorn in the flesh for the country.

The CS urged farmers to utilise the current rains for increased food production while also highlighting the government’s efforts in addressing floods across the country.

“The rain is in plenty, and we are urging our farmers to continue their food production activities. The rains are also assisting us to produce more hydropower, and this will go a long way in lowering our production costs,” said Mr. Linturi.
