Kenya, France partners in 60 million Euros Sports Development Programme

The Ministry of Sports, in partnership with the government of France, has reaffirmed the 60 million Euros investment programme aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure across the country, promoting sports development, nurturing talent, and fostering social inclusion among youth, women, and vulnerable groups.

While holding deliberations with the French Ambassador to Kenya, the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting that Kenya stands to benefit not only from the infrastructure development but also from talent exchange programmes.

“The Ministry is committed to ensuring Kenya maximizes the potential benefits from this collaboration,” stated Mvurya.

The CS hailed the formidable investments made by the French Government, in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, spearheaded by the Municipality of Miramas Bouches-du-Rhône in France.

Through this partnership, he revealed, 12 athletics coaches have been selected to participate in a six-week exchange programme beginning March 2025.

“The House of Coaches programme will facilitate the exchange of best practices through capacity building while providing an ideal platform for talent scouting,” said Mvurya.

He also announced that the French Development Agency (AFD) in collaboration with the National Basketball Association (NBA), will host the Basketball in Wheelchair summit in Nairobi, bringing together athletes, coaches, and stakeholders from around the world to raise awareness, advocate for equal opportunities, and promote inclusivity for athletes with disabilities.
