Kenya and Indian Navy in Joint Maritime Venture

Kenyan and Indian Navies will participate in a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) to bolster security in the Indian Ocean waters.

The Indian High Commission Namgya Khampa said three days event starting    today comprising joint training and practical demonstrations over spectrum of maritime topics   will coincide with the visit of the Deputy Chief of the naval Staff of India, Vice Admiral Sanjay Mahindru to Kenya from 20 t0 23rd June.

She said the during the visit on Invitation by the Kenya Defense Forces, the Indian naval ship Sunayna  under the Command of Siddharth Raut is expected to make a port call at the coastal town of Mombasa  with at least 160 sailors and 22 crew to take part in the event.

Ambassador Khampa told a press briefing that the INS Sunayna was indigenous built by Goa Shipyard Limited as an offshore patrol vessel and was commissioned on 15th October 2013.

She added that the Indian entourage will also engage the host navy in Yoga session on the deck of the ship as the world marks the 9th International day of Yoga on 21st of June representing the “Ocean Ring of Yoga” to promote health and peace across the ocean.

The docking of the Sunayna ship  was precede by a similar visit by Trishul  crew at the port on  May 26th  to 29th    earlier this year as part of the six  African Nation Passage that reflects the commitment of the two countries to peace in the ocean waters.
