KECOSO managers seek to return all its members to the games

The Kenya Communications Sports Organization (KECOSO) is working to return all its 13 member organizations to the games so as to promote talent and build cohesion among their members.

KECOSO Secretary General Omole Asiko said they are striving to bring on board member corporations like the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), Kenya Airways and Kenya Railways among others that did not participate this season, so that together they can promote interaction and friendly relations between their staff.

“We want to promote the standards of our games by incorporating all our member corporations so that we can bring sports closer to the people around the country and create awareness on the services rendered by the member organization,” he said.

He spoke at Slipway hotel in Narok town during the KECOSO swimming competition, where Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) emerged the top followed by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), while the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) came third.

Asiko lauded the participants for maintaining high discipline during the games saying the exercise has been held in a professional manner.

For the last two years, he said, KECOSO games have been under the chairmanship of Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) and in the year 2024 and 2025, the games will be under the chairmanship of Kenya Airport Authority (KAA).

“KMA has managed the games very well and we expect KAA to pick up from them. We ask all our members to participate as they promote physical and mental fitness of the employees,” he said.

He recalled that the games were stopped in 2020 and 2021 following the global Covid-19 pandemic, saying the member organizations are striving to recover the two years lost.

Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Arts and Sports (MOYAS) KECOSO manager Ben Rodgers Nzuki lauded the games for promoting interactions among staff from the various organizations.

“We did not participate last year because our teams were not well prepared. We however hope to continue participating in these games,” he said.

KPA KECOSO manager Bildad Kisero said his team has been leading in the past years because of adequate preparation and team work.

Kisero said the games are so refreshing and impact positively on the overall work force, when the members are back in their work stations.

The games that began on Saturday August 19th will end on Saturday August 26th, 2023.

Disciplines featured in the games include Athletics, football, netball, volleyball, swimming, pool, golf, scrabble, snooker, basketball, darts and table tennis.

These games are conducted with the assistance of technical committees of the various sporting organizations to ensure that the standards achieved are also acceptable internationally.
