Kaya elders announce a unified transition to the SHA program

Kaya elders across Mombasa County have vowed to register with Social Health Authority highlighting that the health module served as a game changer in the health sector especially to the vulnerable groups.

Addressing journalists in the Jomvu Kuu area during a sensitization forum on the SHA program led by President William Ruto’s political advisor, Karisa Nzai who is also the former Jomvu Kuu MCA, the elders noted that health insurance was more beneficial contrary to the propaganda spread by some residents.

Omar Karisa, chairman of a Mijikenda Community-Based Organization(CBO), noted that he was living proof after receiving satisfactory health care services through the new health insurance adding that the premiums were much lower hence easing the burden on the elderly.

“I will work to ensure that our members register to the SHA module starting next week as the program will see that the elderly received health care when they need since we are often faced with various illnesses as a result of old age,” he said.

Nzai urged political leaders to avoid misinforming the public about the medical scheme for political gains but instead use the program as an opportunity to accelerate the Country’s development.

“As leaders, we must take this opportunity to great consideration as this is real life and it involves the lives of the people hence, we should encourage our people to embrace this program rather than misleading them for our benefit,” said Nzai.

He further said that the new health module entails various strategies that have reduced the cost of treatment, especially in the level 2 and level 3 hospitals, noting that the vulnerable groups were currently entitled to free health care in the various health institutions across the country.

Additionally, he called on Kenyans to register Social Health Authority to benefit from Social Health Insurance program and shun propaganda surrounding the scheme.

The forum that was attended by various religious leaders, teachers, and village elders within the Jomvu Kuu area was aimed at sensitizing on the health module.
