Kakamega County Government has opened up opportunities for unemployed youth to work as casuals through the Kazi Mashinani Programme.
Governor Fernandes Barasa said the recruits in the programme will work for a one-year contract while enjoying a salary from the county government.
He urged each Member of County Assembly to identify 50 unemployed youth from each of their wards to benefit from the programme that will start in March.
The Programme is similar to his predecessor’s, Wycliffe Oparanya, CountyYouth and Women Empowerment Program which had listed 3000 beneficiaries.
During Oparanya’s time, the county government was spending Sh 6 million monthly to pay the youth and women employed through the program to work as security guards, take care of county infrastructure projects and clearing of roadsides.
