The Government requires at least Sh10.3 billion to complete and operationalize the Kakamega Level 6 Hospital that would be used as a referral health facility in Western Region.
At least Sh3 billion will be spent in completing the construction of the facility and Sh10 billion to equip and hire staff.
Cabinet Secretary for Health Dr. Deborah Barasa assured that the national government will support the Level 6 Hospital since it is a presidential directive.
Speaking in Malava on Friday, Dr. Barasa announced that the government is going to establish a regional cancer Centre in Kakamega which will be completed by next year.
Kakamega Deputy Governor, Ayub Savula, said that completion of the Level 6 Hospital will lead to improved healthcare services in the entire western region since it would be the main government referral hospital for Western Kenya.
“I have seen your commitment that you will ensure completion of Level 6 hospital. I am grateful that we are fixing this issue through the next budget,” he added.
Once completed, the 750-capacity referral hospital will provide employment to over 4,500 residents.
