Kakamega police arrest suspect behind Embu arson that killed seven

A key suspect in the murder of seven family members in Ngimari village, Gichichie Sub location, Runyenjes Constituency in Embu County has been arrested in Kakamega County while on the run.

Confirming the arrest, Embu East Deputy County Commissioner Jane Waruinge said that the suspect who was on the run, was arrested in Kakamega County at Ebuchangu village.

The seven family members included, Charles Kariuki Njeru 50, his wife Catherine Wanjiru Kariuki 46, their three children Judy Wanjiru Kariuki 23, Maryan Murugi Kariuki 14, Joel Njeru Kariuki 7, and two grandchildren Tumaini Blessing Judy 5 and Prince Baraka Judy 3.

The suspect is believed to be behind the killing of the seven family members who died after their house was allegedly torched by unknown assailants in October 2022, killing all its occupants.

The DCC said police are arranging for the transportation of the suspect from Kakamega to Embu County for prosecution.

Mrs. Waruinge thanked the residents of Ngimari village, Gichichie Sub location, Runyenjes Constituency for giving police their support during the investigations exercise.

She lauded the residents for being patient and calm throughout the investigation.
