Kakamega Governor woos UK investors

The British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan has agreed to take the lead in attracting investors to attend the forthcoming Kakamega County International Business Conference.

Responding to an invitation from the Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, the High Commissioner pledged to ask the British Chamber of Commerce to send a representation to the conference slated for 19-22 March this year.

Wigan said the forum will offer an opportunity for British investors to connect businesses locally, nationally, and internationally for investment opportunities.

“We shall encourage UK companies to look beyond Nairobi and Mombasa for investment opportunities,” he added.

While extending the invitation, Governor Barasa promised that the county government would support and create a conducive environment favourable for their businesses.

Speaking on Thursday in Kakamega town when he hosted the High Commissioner, Governor Barasa said Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) is the new frontier in creating investment opportunities in Kenya, around Agriculture, Health, and Climate Action.

LREB is one of the six economic Blocs adopted in Kenya and consists of 14 counties Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nandi, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga around Lake Victoria and its environs.

The theme of the Conference is “opening up counties as the new frontiers for investment and development among 14 Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) Counties”.

According to the Governor, about 3,000 investors will take part in the conference.
