Kakamega County government is determined to avail clean and safe piped water to residents as progress is made on Musembe dam water treatment plant in Chekalini location in Lugari Sub-County.
The Chief Officer for Water Resources Eng. Joseck Maloba said the plant has a capacity of serving more than 12,128 households.
Eng. Maloba said the treatment plant is capable of producing 100M3 of water per hour saying phase one cost Sh38 million while the ongoing phase two will cost Sh52 million.
“The third and final phase will constitute solar power installation and electricity connection,” he said on Tuesday while touring the site.
He added that the contractor has procured the floating Pontoon, 40 feet container with filtration units, chlorine chemical dozers with chemical dosing tanks, filter media, booster pump and raw submersible water pump.
The area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Kenneth Indusa, who was also present during the exercise, thanked the county government for setting up the project saying it will not only serve Chekalini residents but the larger Lugari Sub-County.
Other similar projects being implemented include; Khuvasali water project in Malava Sub-County, Mutwehe water project in Ikolomani Sub-County, Nandamanywa water project in Shinyalu Sub-County and Lwakhupa water project in Navakholo Sub-County.
