Kakamega County in readiness for the 2023 Music and Cultural Festival

Kakamega County is planning to hold a Music and Cultural festival to showcase talent among the youth in the region.

The County’s Deputy Director of Administration Cyril Mululu said the festival will be used to open opportunities for artists who are gifted in different fields.

“This is in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s social development agenda that focuses on the event for performers,” said Mululu.

He spoke Friday at Mumias Cultural Centre, Mumias West Sub County as they prepare for the Kakamega County Music and Cultural Festival 2023 to be held later in the year.

The meeting was attended by various artists from different categories who were encouraged to sharpen their skills to impress the adjudicators.

Mululu said winners in various categories would be given an opportunity to perform at the Governor’s gala slated for November thus culminating in the 99th edition of the Kenya Music and Cultural Festivals themed ‘Our Culture towards National Cohesion, Integration and Peace’.

He called on the sub-county and ward administrators to register and identify artists teams from ward levels before participating at the sub-county levels who will then proceed to County competitions.

Mululu who presided over the meeting on behalf of the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mophat Mandela, said the categories to be showcased include music and dance, elocutions, poems, theatre performances among others.

This year’s County theme is “Preserving and Celebrating Heritage through Performing Arts,”

Mululu was accompanied by the acting director for Social Services, Gender and Culture Gaudencia Otipa.
