Kakamega County Earmarks Health Facilities for Upgrade

The County Government of Kakamega has earmarked a total of 205 health facilities for upgrade through the Tutunze Kakamega Service Delivery Redesign (SDR) strategy.

In the strategy, which will be implemented in three phases, the county government targets to distribute finances, provide staff equipment, increase bed capacity, improve hospital infrastructure and stock enough medicines.

The County Government is partnering with Jacaranda Health, Thinkwell, Thinkplace, Harvard University and Buildx Studio in the SDR strategy meant to improve maternal health.

Malava Level 4 hospital is one of the facilities which was selected for the programme where partners have constructed a new maternity wing increasing the facility’s bed capacity from 19 to 39.

Governor Fernandes Barasa commissioned the maternity wing on Thursday noting that the county government will be as close as possible to every expectant mother and people in dire health to provide relief to any form of discomfort.

“My attention and that of our partners is to redesign how we offer health services to our people for us to ensure that expectant mothers and other members of the community access health services that have competent medical personnel and appropriate equipment,” he noted.

He said the county government will continue to seek for more collaboration with other partners to enhance service delivery to the county residents and make human life more secure from ailments.
