Kakamega County commissioner flags off peace run

Kakamega County Commissioner, John Ondego, has flagged off a 7 Kilometer peace run for security officers and peace ambassadors.

He said the peace run, dubbed Election Bila Noma, is meant to sensitise the public on the importance of maintaining peace ahead of the August 9 General Elections.

The security officers have volunteered to participate in the peace run to advocate the importance of maintaining peace during the campaigns, elections and post-elections.

The County Commissioner noted that peace is important for development to be achieved in the country, warning that the government will take action against those causing any form of disturbance.

Ondego also advised those seeking different political seats to preach peace while warning youth against allowing themselves to be manipulated by politicians.

Kakamega County Police Commander Joseph Kigen urged residents to notify the security team of any person intending to cause disturbance for action to be taken against them.

Kigen also urged youth to be cautious against substance and drug abuse that may intoxicate them.

On hate speech, Kigen said the security team has deployed gadgets which will be used to monitor hate speech mongers and arrest those inciting the public.
