Kajiado’s Deputy Minority Whip and Purko ward Member of County Assembly, Simon Mumeita Saitoti, has died.
While addressing the media at the County Assembly chambers, Kajiado County Assembly Speaker, Justus Ngossor, said that the first-term MCA passed on last evening at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi, where he was undergoing treatment.
The speaker revealed that the MCA was admitted at the hospital on February 26th, 2025, where he was scheduled to undergo surgery for a condition that was not disclosed.
“Following the surgery, the member was immediately admitted in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until yesterday evening, when he passed on,” said the speaker.
While conveying his condolences, Ngossor said that the County Assembly fraternity has lost a gallant soldier, a leader, a friend and a colleague.
He also revealed that the assembly will take the lead in preparing for the interment rites of their colleague.
The late Saitoti, 42, was elected into the 3rd County Assembly on a Wiper Party ticket.
Up to the time of his passing, Saitoti also served as a member of several County Assembly committees, namely the House Business Committee, the Roads, Transport, Public Works and Energy Committee, the Trade Investments and Enterprise Development committee and the Rules and Procedures Committee.
While conveying his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues, Kajiado governor Joseph ole Lenku said that the MCA’s death is a great loss not only to his family, friends and the people of Purko, but also to the entire political fraternity in Kajiado County.
“We mourn a man who had exemplified humility and service leadership since his days in the disciplined forces. For the last two and a half years that he served as an elected leader, Saitoti stood out as a voice of reason and always advocated for diplomacy to resolve any matter that arose in the county,” Read Governor Lenku’s statement.
Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho also eulogised the late MCA as a humble man with exceptional discipline and leadership skills.
On his part, Kajiado Central Member of Parliament Memusi Kanchori said that the constituency and the county have lost a dependable young leader with great potential.
