Kajiado Residents Urge County Government to Prioritise Stalled Projects

Kajiado residents have urged the area county government to prioritise the completion of stalled projects in the 2025/2026 financial budget.

Speaking during  public participation forums on the finance bill 2025/2026 organised by the county, the residents said that there are so many stalled projects in the county which are turning out to be white elephants yet huge amounts of public money was spent.

Moses Lenchasho, a resident of Matapato North said that  all stalled and incomplete projects should be completed first as stalled projects are a huge loss to the Kajiado taxpayers.

He pointed out that there is no need to start new projects when there are those that have stalled for years yet they were allocated taxpayers money.

“A project like the Oloosuyian dispensary for example has stalled for years. When we ask the contractor why the dispensary has not been completed, he says that it was allocated inadequate funds. Why don’t they allocate sufficient funds to complete a project before they start new ones?” Quipped Lenchasho.

Steve Okello, another resident, said that most of the projects that have stalled are due to non-payment of contractors by the county.

“Due to non-payment, a contractor cannot buy materials nor pay for labour leading to stalled projects. We are urging the county to pay all contractors the money they owe them,” he said.

Another resident David Killian also lamented that  it is unfortunate that politics has taken centre stage when it comes to delivery of services in the county.

He noted that in pursuit of their own interests, the elected leaders tend to start new projects  and ignore the ones that were started by former leaders who lost in the elections leading to a high number of stalled projects in the county.

“Politics should not be at play when it comes to offering services to the people. All stalled projects should be completed first regardless of who started them. Our money should not go to waste just because someone else is in charge now,” he said.

One of the key stalled projects in the county is the Kajiado library which was factored in the county budget from the 2014 to 2017 financial years during former governor David Nkedianye reign yet it has never been completed to date.

Speaking in a different forum, Kajiado governor Joseph ole Lenku committed that the county will pay contractors and all service providers owed by the county.

“We have more than shs2 billion pending bills and in the 2025/2026 financial budget, we will reduce development allocation to clear these bills as it is unfair for them to offer services and not get paid,” said Lenku.
