The County Government of Kajiado has opened the Orata Noonkopir Bridge, which had remained unused for six months since its construction.
The launch brings relief to residents of Noonkopir and Kitengela who from time immemorial have had to cross the river to access crucial services from the town, endangering their lives.
The bridge which connects Kitengela town and Noonkopir area is expected to spur economic growth and ease transport.
Noonkopir residents are now a happy lot as previously they were forced to travel a long distance to access crucial health services at Kitengela sub-county hospital, the only public health hospital in the area.
The bridge will also be of great benefit to boda boda operators in the region.
“I am grateful to the county government for constructing the bridge. Lack of bridge has exposed us to many dangers including falling into the river while crossing,” said an elated resident, Jane Mukami.
“The opening of the bridge will save us the cost of travelling long distance to access Kitengela which is a stone throw away from Noonkopir,” added Yusuf Maina another area resident.
On his part, the area Member or County Assembly Francis Kaesha, noted that the County Government was determined to continue initiating development projects in an effort to uplift residents’ standards of living.
